Theoretical Approaches
A note on my approaches
Some traditional therapeutic approaches have historically emphasized masking, compliance, or changing autistic and ADHD traits rather than understanding the underlying needs driving them. My approach is different. I believe therapy should build self-understanding, self-compassion, and regulation—not teach you to hide who you are.
That said, I do draw from evidence-based approaches when they can be adapted in a neuroaffirming way. Every intervention I use is carefully chosen to honour your neurotype, lived experience, and goals, rather than expecting you to fit into a neurotypical mould.
-
Attachment-Based Therapy: Builds secure, trusting relationships as a foundation for healing.
-
Trauma-Informed Care: Emphasizes safety, empowerment, and understanding trauma’s impact.
-
Person-Centered Approach: Respects clients as experts of their own experience, grounded in empathy and authenticity.
-
EMDR: is a trauma-informed therapeutic approach that helps individuals process and reduce the emotional impact of distressing memories through guided bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements.
-
Strengths-Based Focus: Highlights resilience and existing resources over pathology.
-
Neurodiversity-Affirming Practice: Celebrates natural variation; centers respect, self-advocacy, and inclusion.
-
Developmental & Relational Lens: Considers emotional needs through growth stages and relationships.
-
Mindfulness-Based Tools: Cultivates present-moment awareness and emotional regulation.
-
Somatic Therapy: Uses body awareness to support trauma healing and self-connection.
-
Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT): Strengthens relationships by transforming emotional patterns.
-
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a gentle, evidence-based therapeutic approach that helps clients explore and heal the different “parts” of themselves by fostering a compassionate inner dialogue led by the core Self.
